A dental emergency can cause stress and pain. Even a small amount of pain in your teeth or gums can impact your daily living. In general, a dental emergency is anything affecting your jaw, teeth, or gums that needs immediate treatment or care.

A Dentist Near You to Treat Dental Emergencies

When you have a dental emergency, you want to find a dentist near you as soon as possible that will be able to see you. Our Tsawwassen dental office is often open Saturdays and later hours to see dental patients. Same-day appointments for dental emergencies can often be accommodated. We can also accommodate walk-in dental clinic patients.

Common Dental Emergencies

Some of the common dental emergencies we see are:

Chipped or Broken Tooth or Teeth

You may have fallen and chipped it on the pavement or bumped into something or someone that broke a tooth. If the pain isn’t too bad, you may be able to wait for an appointment. A cracked or fractured tooth should be looked at by Dr. Beeram as there might be damage to the inside of the tooth.

Knocked-out Tooth or Tooth Avulsion

If your tooth is knocked out, try to get the tooth and yourself to Dr. Beeram as soon as possible to see if it can be saved, usually within 2 hours.

Loose Tooth or Teeth

Even if you’re not experiencing pain, a loose tooth in an adult could be the sign of a problem.

Severe Toothache

Depending on the severity of the pain, you may want to seek out dental care immediately.

Dental Trauma

If you’ve been in an accident that has involved your face, teeth, or jaws, you may need to see a dentist as soon as possible.

Infection or Abscess

A swollen face or swelling could indicate there is an infection. This could be serious so you’ll want to get in to see Dr. Beeram as soon as possible. You may also notice a fever, tender lymph nodes, tooth sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, bumps on the gums near the infected tooth.

Bleeding in the Mouth

If you have a cut in the mouth or bite your lip, mouth tissue, or tongue and it won’t stop bleeding, it is best to seek out emergency dental care.

Swollen Jaw

Swelling in the jaw can show abscess or infection. A dentist will be able to determine the best course of treatment.

If you are in severe pain, you should seek out medical or dental treatment as soon as possible.

Dental Emergencies That May Not Require Immediate Care

Only you are aware of the level of pain or discomfort you are in which will determine your need to seek immediate dental care. With some issues, you may be able to wait for an appointment.

  • A broken tooth with little pain
  • Toothache if the pain isn’t too severe and there is no abscess
  • Losing a filling or crown
  • Something stuck in between your tooth. Try using floss first to remove it, but if it won’t budge make an appointment with Beach Grove Dental Tsawassen as it could become infected.

The Canadian Dental Association has some tips on how to handle dental situations outside of routine dental care.

Kids’ Dental Emergencies

Children can have dental emergencies too. A child’s dental emergency is similar to what an adult dental emergency would be. If your child is experiencing a sore mouth or discomfort, contact us to get you in to an appointment.

Booking an Appointment for Emergency Dental Care

If you feel you have a dental emergency requiring immediate dental care, contact our dental clinic or walk in to our Tsawwassen office. We want you to live your best life and that is difficult if you are in pain. We will get you in to see the dentist at the first available opportunity.
